To obtain the best possible fit, the registration of purely 2D object information is usually insufficient: precise 3D measurement is required in order to check the dimensional accuracy of individual parts and already assembled subunits. Quality control takes place in locations that are hard to reach, covering a wide variety of features and surfaces with widely variable reflection properties. In addition, the product being inspected may not only be in an undefined position, but in motion as well. The measuring data acquired are used directly for quality optimization in production. The family of Geometry Gauging Sensors (GGS) offers a simple, compact set of tools for production automation that fulfill the defined inspection requirements.
